At this point, Ye lets a flurry of tweets off daily, and there is always at least one newsworthy moment. This time, it is because he expressed his belief that the music industry is trying to replace him by giving Kendrick Lamar his spot.
The artist formerly known as Kanye West came across a video in which a fan discussed K. Dot’s new music video for “Luther” and how Universal Music Group has been boosting his status with bots. They specifically highlighted a clip from the video where the Compton rapper looks dejected and alleged he has looked that way since his rap beef with Drake because he knows that he isn’t as big as they make him out to be. The Chicago producer co-signed the statement by sharing some of his history.
“Look man when I was dropping Graduation I had the whole building behind me too. That’s the way this profession is,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet on X. “He got 24 Grammies. They are strategically trying to erase what I did and earned with ni**as that won’t even be remembered 100 years from now. I’m by faaaarrr the most important artist of our lifetime. Everyone that works with the Super Bowl and Grammies can suck my d**k foreevvveeeerrr ni**a.”

Ye continued by bringing up Playboi Carti, whom he was frustrated with for having Kendrick Lamar on his latest album Music three times but not him. His point, however, wasn’t exactly related to his previous thoughts in the tweet. “Ni**a called me saying don’t you think Carti should have got a pass since it’s his first album,” he wrote. “NI**A it’s his 3rd album you stupid piece of sh*t. How do broke fa**ot a** ni**as keep getting my number.”
The Vultures artist has been fixated on Lamar for months now, which is a major flip from his energy one year ago. When the Pulitzer Prize winner first targeted Drake on “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin, West jumped into the fray and previewed his remix to the song. In an interview with Justin Laboy, he expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the “elimination of Drake” and called out how he and Lucian Grainge have been harmful to the space.
Fast forward a year later, the 24-time Grammy winner has admitted that he is envious of the GNX artist. He took issue with Lamar getting picked for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show despite his domestic abuse allegations and drew a parallel to Diddy, whom he has defended for months and is currently behind bars. He has also flat-out admitted that he does not like Lamar’s music.
