WATCH: Mdu Shabalala miss sitter to cost Kaizer Chiefs points

Mduduzi Shabalala missed a sitter as Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw against Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.

Coming into the match, Amakhosi were looking for three points to jump into sixth in the Betway Premiership. Given Msimango got a rare start in defence replacing injured Rushwin Dortley. Edmilson Dove, who recently returned to the team after a long-term injury, retained his place at left-back.

Kaizer Chiefs fan favourite Mdu Shabalala started upfront alongside Gaston Sirino, Makabi Lilepo and Ashley Du Preez. In the 42nd minutes, Shabalala had a chance to open the scoring after he stole the ball from the City defender. Faced one-on-one with Darren Keet, the young midfielder fired wide to the displeasure of the crowd.

Mdu Shalalala has been low in confidence for Kaizer Chiefs

Amakhosi threw everything at City in the second half but Muhsin Ertugral’s men held on for a draw. Since taking over in January, the Turkish coach has collected four points from his former club Chiefs.

A draw sees the Glamour Boys remain in eighth place on the log after 21 matches this season.

Despite starting the season well, Mduduzi Shabalala has not started most of Kaizer Chiefs’ previous games. He is a player short of confidence given how he has been missing easy chances of late. It remains to be seen if Nasreddine Nabi will start with the youngster in Amakhosi’s next match.

Should Nabi bench Shabalala?
