The Wrapp

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

There’s been a lot of pointing and clicking for me lately, what with The Great Sneeze having just launched and Your House coming up in a few days. The latter is something that’s currently swallowed me whole – I’m in the last chapter now and will continue to try and solve its mysteries over the weekend in time for an embargoed review due next week. Here’s hoping I don’t get distracted by more pointing and clicking – although that new A Little to the Left DLC is looking pretty interesting…

I really need to expand my mobile repertoire a bit, and one thing that’s been calling out to me is 80 Days. I played this a long while back on PC, and after seeing Catherine’s review of Expelled! I feel now might be the right time to jump back into Inkle’s excellent story-based take on the classic novel.

And hold the phone! I’ve just noticed that the Epic Games Store has released two new games on its free program and that it’s now going to be weekly! Well, I think Super Meat Boy Forever is calling my name and will be well worth a few hours of playtime…

Let me tell you a tale of college-era me. When the Wii U was more than just the doorstop it is now, there was a game called Xenoblade Chronicles X. I purchased a Wii U, a copy of the game, and it didn’t work. So I purchased a 2 TB hard drive and a digital version, and it didn’t work. So, I bought another Wii U and gave the other one to my nephew to look like a good uncle.

It was totally worth it, and now, the Definitive Edition has been released. This time, I already have the console, although I did buy a Switch Pro controller after playing 30 minutes with the JoyCons. All this to say! I have changed my name and moved into the woods, and no one will hear from me for, according to Howlongtobeat, about 250 hours.

I don’t really have some crazy plans set in stone for this weekend – in all honesty, all I need is to relax in bed with a hot cup of tea and my beautiful kingdom in Cookie Run Kingdom! I hope I’ll have some extra time to play a little bit of DC Dark Legion – check out our tier list if you need some help – too since that game is what I consider “the game that keeps on giving”.

Aside from that, I’ve just activated my invitation to mo.co, a brand-new game that I’m hoping I will have time to enjoy in its entirety these days.

There has been a week of festivities and rain which has people’s energy all over the place, but I’m doing fine. I like the rain, but it’s always a nice reason to stay inside and play games. A recent game called Blobun was sent to me for having a mechanic that makes the game unplayable as both a joke and a statement. I’d like to check it out if I can, but just reading about it is making me think about funny games in general. Usually, the meta or self-aware comedy gets the most attention, but maybe I can find genuinely funny internal writing.

I’ll continue my exploration of itch.io to see some of the odd and silly ideas on there that can turn out to be quite entertaining and a good laugh.

With the announcement of Digimon Alysion and the Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion reveal, I’m in the mood for some card battling. So, I’ll probably dip into Pocket for a little while over the weekend. And I suspect it won’t be for long since it rarely holds my attention outside of Emblem events.

Beyond that, much like Iwan, I’m tempted to try out Super Meat Boy Forever while it’s free on the Epic Games Store. I loved the original, and while this version is a slightly different offering, I’m hoping it’ll provide similar frustration and elation vibes.
