It was announced on Monday that the July 20 fight between Tyson and Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will be a sanctioned, professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The heavyweight bout will be fought over eight two-minute rounds, and the outcome will count toward both of their boxing records.

“Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome,” Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said in a statement to ESPN. “Over the past six weeks, MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul vs. Tyson, and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point.”

The 31-year age gap between the two fighters will be the biggest in professional boxing history, as Tyson will be 58 years old when he steps into the ring against the 27-year-old Paul. Tyson hasn’t won a professional fight since February 2003. He most recently competed in an exhibition match in November 2020 against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a split draw.

The fight between Paul and Tyson will be streamed live on Netflix, marking the platform’s first combat sports event and third live sports event. A highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight title will also be featured on the card as the co-main event.
