F1 – the highly anticipated film based on Formula One, has officially released its trailer on YouTube. The film features Brad Pitt as a Formula One veteran making a dramatic return to the sport to mentor a rising young driver, played by Damson Idris. Directed by “Top Gun: Maverick’s” Joseph Kosinski and co-produced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the film promises high-speed action and intense drama when it hits theaters this June.

The premier class of motorsport has witnessed a surge in popularity, especially in the United States of America, and Netflix’s Drive to Survive could be responsible for this. Now though, ‘F1’ is expected to expand Formula One’s reach further, helping fans familiarize themselves with the sport.

One main highlight of the film is expected to be its authenticity, as it syncs with everything that occurs in a Formula One season. Thus, filming took place on actual Grand Prix weekends where a fictional F1 car from the film was placed among other cars on several occasions for filming, ensuring the true essence of the sport is captured.

Hamilton’s role was to ensure the film portrays F1 in the most realistic manner, and he was known to be very particular about it. Producer of ‘F1,’ Jerry Bruckheimer, recalled one such instance while filming at Silverstone, when Hamilton advised Brad Pitt to shift the car into the correct gear to match it with the real-world Formula One race. Speaking to the media last year, Bruckheimer said:

“Lewis Hamilton saw a part of it, gave us a critique of how the drivers actually do various things.

“The level of specifics that he gave us, like in Silverstone in Turn 3 you’re in second gear, and he could hear with his ear we [Brad Pitt] were in third gear.

“So it’s that kind of thing that he’s bringing to the movie, and he said… when he finishes a race, especially like Singapore, where it’s very hot, he can barely get out of the car, they lose 10 pounds… and it’s not only him, it’s all of them.

“They’re just completely exhausted [and] we’re going to show what it takes to be an F1 driver.”

He added:

“Everything that he has brought to this movie, I can’t even express our thanks to him and all the folks from F1 who made this all possible.

“But the authenticity that he brings, we just can’t imagine what goes into what a driver does and what the sport brings to an audience.

“Sometimes we don’t like to hear some of the things he says, because it costs us more money to fix things, but we’re all in, we want to make it great, and he’s certainly helping us.”

‘F1’ is set to premiere on June 25, 2025, but for the audience in North America, the movie will release two days later on June 27.
