Ezra Miller Makes Red Carpet Return at Cannes 2 Years After Controversies
We need to talk about Ezra Miller‘s return to the red carpet.
The 32-year-old made a surprise appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in France May 17. It marked the first time the actor, who was involved in several controversies in past years, was seen on a red carpet since the premiere of The Flash in Los Angeles in June 2023.
Miller attended the festival to support director Lynne Ramsay at the premiere of her film Die My Love, according to Variety, which shared a video of the performer walking past photographers on X, formerly Twitter. The actor, who had worked with her on the 2011 movie We Need to Talk About Kevin, who wore a burgundy tux and a beret over their long hair, did not stop for them.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower star has not acted onscreen and has remained out of the spotlight following years of personal turmoil, which included an April 2020 incident in which they were filmed appearing to choke a woman at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland and other apparent erratic behavior that led to several 2022 arrests, including two in Hawaii.
Miller was also charged in August of that year with felony burglary in Vermont for allegedly stealing several bottles of alcohol. The actor, who pleaded not guilty in the case, avoided jail sentences stemming from all the incidents for which they were detained.
They also announced they had recently begun treatment for issues related to their mental health and also issued an apology.
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” they told E! News in a statement in August 2022. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior.”

Miller continued, “I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
The following year, they spoke out again following the expiration of a temporary harassment order that was issued against them over allegations of inappropriate behavior toward a minor, which the actor’s lawyer had denied.
“I’m encouraged by today’s outcome and very grateful at this moment to everyone who has stood beside me and sought to ensure that this egregious misuse of the protection order was halted,” Miller said in a statement posted to Instagram in June 2023, adding that they “have been unjustly and directly targeted.”
Miller also shared a personal update. “I want everyone to know,” they wrote, “that I am continuing to do my best to preserve my own wellness and what I can to reverse the collateral damage this ordeal has brought upon me and those close to me.”
