Claressa Shields has been on a high from her relationship with Papoose, but allegedly, the athlete has also just been flat-out high.

According to Sky Sports, the Michigan native has been suspended from the state’s Unarmed Combat Commission after “an oral fluid sample” test revealed she was positive for marijuana use on Thursday (Feb. 20). The ruling arrived in the aftermath of her win against boxer Danielle Perkins in early February. Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission released a statement regarding Shields’ apparent use of THC, asserting that as a boxer, she is responsible for upholding integrity within the sport.

“Ms Shields’ conduct as a licensed professional boxer constitutes an imminent threat to the integrity of professional boxing, the public interest, and the welfare and safety of professional athletes,” the statement to Sky Sports read.

Dmitriy Salita, Shields’ promoter, also sent a statement to the outlet on Friday (Feb. 21) declaring that the matter will be cleared up after a proper investigation has concluded. “This is a pending matter with the Michigan Commission and, as such, I cannot share much more. However, we are 100 percent confident Claressa Shields will be vindicated when this matter concludes, and all the evidence is heard,” it read.

“The GWOAT” hit up X/twitter on Thursday (Feb. 20) with a simple message responding to the MUCC’s decision, typing, “And still the UNDISPUTED WOMENS HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION,” referring to her historic position of being the first boxer regardless of gender to win undisputed titles in three different weight classes. Claressa then clarified what she was being suspended for, ironing some details with her followers. “It was marijuana, no PEDs,” Shields added. “It is a temporary suspension until I go to trial for the very petite amount. I’ve never smoked weed.”

It should be noted that just last week, the acclaimed athlete responded to rumors that she had been taking performance-enhancement drugs. Claressa Shields’ comments were aimed at reporters like Rick Glaser who claimed that the champion had failed a drug test and tested positive for PEDs on Thursday (Feb. 13). “Claressa Shields has reputedly failed a drug test for her most recent fight, rumored to be a PED test,” he typed at the time. Shields shot back, demanding a “public apology” from Glaser and other blogs who were spreading lies “playing with her reputation.”

“It’s really angering that this man is playing with my reputation. I’ve been a clean athlete all my life, to ever put my name and PEDS with positive and my name in the sentence is damaging. He knows that. He’s going to get sued and I’d like a public apology,” she responded.
