Competition: A-League
Market: Melbourne Victory draw no bet
Odds: 1/2 @ Pribet
Two sides who open this weekend’s fixtures only separated by their goal difference, Melbourne will welcome Adelaide to AAMI Park on Saturday morning.
Starting with the hosts, heading into March’s international break with an action-packed 4-2 loss away at Western Sydney, Melbourne will be seeking an immediate response here. However, although the Victory might have stormed their way to an eye-catching 3-0 romp against Central Coast earlier in the month, it is fair to sat that Arthur Diles’ side are seeking some recent stability. Mustering just a single victory from any of their previous four A-League appearances, they have also collected back-to-back victories on just a single occasion since the start of December. Nevertheless, still sat in pole position to claim another play-off spot this season, Melbourne will be excited by their continued success on home soil. In fact, Saturday’s hosts have registered 10 points from their previous four A-League appearances at AAMI Park. Likewise, aside from a dramatic 4-2 defeat against Western United on January 10th, that is the only home loss that Diles’ camp have suffered since the end of September.
As for the visitors, while Adelaide might have embarked on a history-making run on either side of opening the New Year, Carl Veart’s side have come crashing back down to earth in a nightmare fashion. Watching their AFC Champions League dreams take a critical blow, the Reds have collected just two points from any of their last five A-League appearances. Heading into March’s international break with a remarkable 5-4 loss at home against Macarthur, they have also registered just a sole victory from any of their previous eight attempts. Getting March underway with an action-packed 4-4 stalemate against Auckland, Adelaide have unsurprisingly gained a recent reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. It should be noted, Veart’s downbeat squad have shipped 15 goals on their five-match winless rut. Despite landing a 3-2 victory when they welcomed Melbourne to Coopers Stadium on January 18th, the Reds should be set for a real examination on Saturday morning.
