Desperate to claim an immediate response on Thursday night, Bradford will welcome Notts County to Valley Parade.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to losing ways last week as they eventually fell to what was a remarkable 5-4 loss away at Swindon, Bradford know the importance of claiming an essential boost here. While Graham Alexander’s men might open Thursday’s return to Valley Parade sat in the automatic promotion spots, the Bantams are desperately seeking some recent stability. Despite securing a dominant 4-1 victory against Colchester last month, the former Salford boss has seen his squad win just a pair of their previous seven League Two appearances. Getting April underway with a 2-0 loss at the hands of Port Vale, Bradford will at least take some solace from their extended success on home soil. In fact, Alexander’s side have astonishingly won 12 of their last 13 showdowns in Yorkshire – a run that stems all the way back to a 1-1 stalemate against Barrow on December 3rd.
As for the visitors, while Notts County might have secured back-to-back victories against Newport and MK Dons on either side of opening April, the Magpies find themselves in a very similar position to Thursday’s opponents. Last seen falling to a shock 3-1 drumming at home against Salford, Stuart Maynard’s men have won just a trio of their previous 10 League Two appearances. However, knowing that they can move within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots in midweek, the former Southend boss will be excited by a dominant record against Bradford. Storming their way to a 3-0 victory when they welcomed the Bantams to Meadow Lane for their reverse League Two meeting on December 21st, Maynard’s camp have won all of their previous three meetings by an aggregate score of 10-2. In a contest that tends to produce plenty of action, we are expecting what could be a season-defining affair here.
