  • Argentine lawyer Gregorio Dalbón has requested an Interpol Red Notice for Hayden Davis, co-creator of the $LIBRA cryptocurrency
  • The request follows the collapse of $LIBRA, which led to significant financial losses for investors
  • Dalbón cites Davis’s financial resources and potential flight risk as reasons for the international arrest warrant

Prominent Argentine lawyer Gregorio Dalbón has formally requested the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice for Hayden Davis, the co-creator of the $LIBRA token, in the latest escalation of the scandal. This move comes after the cryptocurrency’s abrupt collapse, which resulted in substantial financial losses for numerous investors and the country’s president, Javier Milei, coming under pressure after promoting it. Dalbón emphasized Davis’s considerable financial means and the associated risk of him evading justice as primary reasons for seeking the international arrest warrant, which is yet to be issued.

Pump, Dump and Dead

The $LIBRA cryptocurrency was launched on February 14, 2025, with endorsements from high-profile figures, including Milei. The token’s value skyrocketed from $0.000001 to $5.20 within 40 minutes of its launch, attracting widespread investor interest. However, the surge was short-lived; the founders, holding 70% of the total supply, sold their holdings abruptly, causing the price to plummet by 85%. This sudden crash led to approximately $87 million in losses for an estimated 74,000 investors, with the event being described as a “rug pull” scam.

In response to the collapse, over 100 criminal complaints alleging fraud were filed against President Milei by February 17. A group led by Claudio Lozano, leader of the opposition Popular Unity party, also filed charges against the president. Within the first 48 hours following Milei’s initial tweet promoting $LIBRA, 112 criminal complaints were filed in the Supreme Court of Argentina.

Interpol Coming After Davis?

Attorney Gregorio Dalbón, known for representing former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in a corruption case, has pushed the case further by requesting an Interpol Red Notice for Hayden Davis. Dalbón submitted this request to prosecutor Eduardo Taiano and Judge María Servini, who are overseeing the investigation into the $LIBRA scandal. Dalbón argues that Davis’s substantial financial resources and his central role in the creation and promotion of $LIBRA increase the likelihood of him evading justice.

An Interpol Red Notice serves as an international request for the location and provisional arrest of an individual pending extradition. While it is not an international arrest warrant, it facilitates cooperation among member countries to apprehend individuals facing serious charges. If granted, this notice would significantly aid Argentine authorities in securing Davis’s extradition to face charges related to the LIBRA scandal.

The LIBRA incident has not only led to financial losses but has also sparked a political crisis in Argentina. President Milei faces allegations of fraud and calls for impeachment due to his promotion of the cryptocurrency, although he has denied involvement in the coin’s development, stating that he was unaware of the project’s details at the time of his endorsement. The Anti-Corruption Office has initiated an investigation into the matter, and the case has been assigned to Judge María Servini.
