Former House Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee for Senate in Michigan last year, is making another run.

“As your next senator, I won’t just represent Michigan, I’ll fight for it,” Rogers said in a campaign announcement video, touting his support for President Donald Trump’s policy agenda.

“Alongside President Trump, I’ll work to bring good, high-paying manufacturing jobs back to Michigan, and I guarantee we’ll protect Social Security for our seniors,” Rogers said.

He quickly locked up endorsements from Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Tim Scott of South Carolina.

“Michigan is a battleground state, and with Mike as our candidate, I know we will add this seat to President Trump’s Senate Majority in 2026,” Scott said in a statement.

Rogers served seven terms in the House, leaving office at the beginning of 2015.

In 2024, Rogers lost an open-seat contest to Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin by less than one-half of one-percent, as Trump won the state’s Electoral College votes. With Democratic Sen. Gary Peters having decided not to run for reelection, 2026 will be an open-seat contest as well.

Rep. John James, R-Mich., announced last week that he would run for governor, seeking to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. James was unsuccessful in Senate bids in both 2018 and 2020, losing to the incumbent Democratic senators. Potential statewide candidates from both parties have been weighing which of the two open contests to enter.
