Four learners tragically lost their lives after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident in Daveyton on 10 March 2025.
On Monday morning the lives of four children were sadly cut short while they were on their way to school. The accident took place on the N12 in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni. One of the young scholars, Kgosi Malatji, has been described as a “happy boy.”
FOUR LEARNERS KILLED IN ACCIDENT IN DAVEYTON
The four learners died following the accident in Daveyton when their scholar transport collided with another vehicle. The collision occured on the N12 near the Putfontein Road off-ramp in Daveyton.
The South African previously reported that law enforcement agencies were investigating the cause of the accident. Steve Mabona, the Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, detailed the involvement of multiple vehicles in the crash.
TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR LEARNERS KILLED IN ACCIDENT IN DAVEYTON
Tributes are pouring in for the late young learners who died in the accident in Daveyton. Griffcats early learning centre in Benoni, remembers one of their learners, Kgosi Malatji.
Those sharing heartfelt messages said the seven-year-old was a happy child. He is also said to have loved school, reported TimesLIVE on 11 March. Aileen Griffiths from Griffcats said the news came to them as a shock.
“He was a very happy boy, he loved his teachers, he loved coming to school, he was very popular with his friends and we are all completely devastated. We are all in shock,” she expressed.
Lubanzi Nhlapho is another seven-year-old who the accident in Daveyton led to him losing his life. He was a Grade 1 learner at Rynfield Primary School.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of one of our Grade one learners, Lubanzi, who was taken from us too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.
“Lubanzi will remain in our hearts and will always be part of our Rynfield family. Let us stand together in strength, love and compassion, holding close the memory and life of little Lubanzi,” his school shared.
Two other learners met their demise in the accident in Daveyton. They are Hlompho Mofokeng and Khetelwe Zulu. Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni disaster and emergency services, William Ntladi spoke about the crash. He reportedly said the cause of the accident is still unknown.
