Monnapule Saleng’s saga with Orlando Pirates seems far from over, and little is known about the star’s future at the Soweto giants.
BUCCANEERS 26-YEAR-OLD STAR MAKING HEADLINES
Saleng hasn’t starred for the Buccaneers for almost three months despite his command of the game and flair.
He last starred for the team in December during a CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly.
Since then, he has been on the sidelines, and Orlando Pirates have pointed out personal issues as the reason behind his absence.
However, his parents and close friends are saying otherwise. Speaking to the media, those close to the star said that ‘his contract is the problem.’
Monnapule Saleng’s father said, “The problem is the contract. We would want him to stick with Pirates because it is one of the biggest clubs in the country.”
One of his close friends seemingly disclosed his salary to the media. The star apparently earns R70 000 at the club despite being one of the best stars there.
Surprisingly, this is R80 000 less than he reportedly earned while on loan at Moroka Swallows during the 2021-2022 season. Rumour mill has it that he was pocketing around R 150 000 while on loan.
Against the reports and interviews, fans are more than convinced that ‘his contract’ could be the reason behind the star’s fallout with Orlando Pirates.
Rumour mill said their fallout came after his camp requested a salary increment.
DR IRVIN KHOZA’S SON MPUMI AGREES TO SALENG’S SALARY INCREMENT
However, one of the fans pulled out all the stops and begged the club to increase his salary, and Orlando Pirates owner Irvin Khoza’s son, Mpumi Khoza, seemingly gave it a nod.
The fan begged Orlando Pirates during the club’s one-nil over Chippa United during the week, and his gesture was captured on camera.
In the now-viral video, the star held a placard that read, “Saleng Money. In + R350 000, please, Dr Khoza.”
Despite Dr Khoza not being spotted in the stands, his son seemingly acknowledged the request and reacted positively, leaving many convinced that the club might do something about it.
WILL ORLANDO PIRATES OFFER SALENG A BETTER CONTRACT?
